The following insights are taken from a random sample of data captured by the Radarr social listening & monitoring platform.

  • MI has played and lost 4 matches so far. The teams they’ve faced until now are RR, KKR, RCB, and PBKS
  • MI lost all 4 matches but the biggest loss was against KKR on the 6th of April. KKR won that match with 5 wickets and 24 balls to spare.
  • Conversations about MI increased by a big 44% when they played RCB. However, the conversations peaked when they played PBKS as it rose by a whopping 63%.
  • Since Mumbai has been losing all its matches, the negative conversation surrounding it has naturally seen a rise. Negative conversations increased by 45% when they lost to RCB and by 55% when they lost to KKR
  • Interestingly, most of the positive conversations about Mumbai come from Twitter whereas the negative ones come from Facebook.

IPL Social Media Listening Insights 2021

With 5 championships to their name, Mumbai Indians is the most successful franchise in the history of the league. 

They had a slow start and were unsuccessful in the initial years of the IPL. They first found success in 2013, when they won the championship after defeating Chennai Super Kings by 23 runs. 

From then on, there’s been no stopping them. Their second title came in 2015 when they beat Chennai Super Kings yet again in the finals. Their third title came against the Rising Pune Supergiant in 2017 in a thriller they won by a single run.

The pattern continued as they won their fourth IPL title in 2019, again by a single run against the mighty team from Chennai. Their fifth championship came the very next year. They won IPL 2020 by beating the young Delhi Capitals by 5 wickets.
